Sconset Serenade:
A Tale of Nantucket
It’s 1933 in Nantucket - a time of Prohibition, jazzy tunes, and swinging golf clubs under the summer sun. Twin grads, Alfie and Artie O'Gorman, have set off from the mainland to the island, for a precious opportunity as caddies in the new Sankaty Head Golf Camp. Here, they hope not only to enjoy the links and earn some money, but also qualify for a college scholarship if they are lucky.
They persuade their older sis, Doris (Dot) to come for a visit on her summer holiday from teaching. She and her dear friend and colleague, Jane, head out in her new Roadster for a few well deserved days of pleasure and madcap adventure, staying the rose-covered accommodations in ‘Sconset, on the easternmost part of the island. Intrigued by the variant beaches and making new friends, Dot stays for an extra week after Jane leaves for her summer job, but soon finds that rather than fun under the sun, she encounters romance, suspicions, and mystery.
Will Dot escape danger? What of the handsome gentleman that she keeps encountering everywhere she goes? And what of the sullen dark guitarist that seems, contrary to his outward actions, intent on wooing her at each performance? Will her ‘Sconset Serenade be a saving song or will it be her elegy?
